Rare, Eight-Sided 1915 Gold Coin at April 2008 Santa Clara Expo

(Santa Clara, California) -- A rare, eight-sided gold coin minted in San Francisco nearly a century ago will be displayed at the Santa Clara Coin, Stamp & Collectibles Expo as part of a nearly three-quarters of a million dollars exhibit of items from the 1915 Panama-Pacific Exposition. The show will be open to the public at the Santa Clara Convention Center, 5001 Great America Parkway, and the "Pan-Pac" items will be exhibited during the first three days of the event, April 10 - 13, 2008.

"The octagonal $50 denomination gold coin is one of five superb condition Panama-Pacific gold and silver San Francisco Mint coins that were registered by Panama-Pacific officials as the sixth of only 24 complete coin sets produced for the event in 1915," said Ronald J. Gillio, Expo General Chairman. "The 'Pan-Pac' set that will be displayed at the show includes the original $200 invoice, but the coins and their original copper and glass frame are valued today at about $700,000."
